Dr. Slump IQ博士 - Review

Finally I finish reading the whole comic set (18 books) of Dr. Slump :) For almost one month plus, I totally stop watching my drama & movie just to read this... When I read comic, I don't like to rush, I love to read & imagine how it usually move from the way the author 鳥山明 Akira Toriyama trying to present in it. Comic books always give me more spaces to imagine than the cartoon animation. 

As mentioned in my previous post, Dr. Slump came out way earlier than Dragon Ballz... The manga series were originally shown in comic magazine, from January 1980 till August 1984. The author thought this manga series will only last for one year plus but Arale seems to be getting it fame that time and the comic become more and more popular :)

Dr. Slump is set in Penguin Village, a place where humans co-exist with all sorts of anthropomorphic animals and other objects. In this village lives Senbei Norimaki, an inventor. In the first chapter, he builds what he hopes will be the world's most perfect little girl robot, named Arale Norimaki. However, she turns out to be in severe need of eyeglasses. She is also very naïve, and in later issues she has adventures such as bringing a huge bear home, having mistaken it for a pet. To Senbei's credit, she does have super-strength. In general, the manga focuses on Arale's misunderstandings of humanity and Senbei's inventions, rivalries, and romantic misadventures. In the middle of the series, a recurring villain named Dr. Mashirito appears as a rival to Senbei.

Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl~Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch 十兵衛ちゃん ラブリー眼帯の秘密〜

Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl is a Japanese anime action comedy television series created by Akitaro Daichi (Fruits Basket, Tsukikage Ran). Jubei-chan follows Jiyu Nanohana, a modern highschool girl and unwilling heir to the Yagyu Jubei school of swordsmanship. The series is recognized for its magical girl stylings, including a mystical artifact, the Lovely Eyepatch, that serves as the source of the heroine's power.

Jubei-chan comprises two television series. The Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch premiered April 5, 1999 and revolves around Jiyu Nanohana coping with her newly entrusted powers and responsibilities and the centuries-old feud between the Yagyu and Ryujoji schools. 

The main conflict in The Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch is between the Yagyu Jubei and Ryujoji schools. The rivalry was seemingly ended 300 years before the events of the series, when Yagyu Jubei defeated the Ryujoji school champion. Dying from his wounds, Jubei told his loyal companion Koinosuke to find someone with "plump, bouncy bon bons" and give her his eyepatch that contained a lifetime's worth of sword techniques. Unknowingly to Koinosuke, the Ryujoji clan plots their revenge.

After 300 years of searching, Koinosuke finds Jiyu Nanohana in modern Japan. Her figure makes her the ideal candidate to be the next Jubei. He approaches her and tries to give her the eyepatch but she steadfastly refuses. Only when they are attacked by a Ryujoji swordsman does she don the eyepatch and dispose of him. They eventually find out that the Ryujoji clan believes it will be vindicated once the reincarnation of Jubei is defeated.

The introductory episodes follow the "Monster of the Week" formula, in this case, her teachers and peers constantly challenging her. Later episodes delve into Sai's pain of losing Jiyu's mother, the sacrifice that Jiyu has to make in order to live a double-life as Jubei, and the Ryujoji Family Curse.

Kidō Shinsengumi Moeyo Ken 機動新撰組 萌之劍 きどうしんせんぐみ もえよけん

Anime TV Series: Set in an alternate universe Meiji Era, the lead male character of the story, Ryunosuke Sakamoto, is travelling from Shanghai towards Kyoto with his newly licensed yōkai Nekomaru. The law in the story states that to be in legal possession of such a creature that it must be licensed. The Shinsengumi are enforcers of this law.

Anime OAV: The main characters are three girls from the Shinsengumi who battle yokai and ayakashi (demons and spirits) to protect the city of Kyoto.

X-Men: The Animated Series Season 1

1992-1993

01 "Night of the Sentinels (Part 1)" October 31, 1992

The X-Men come to the aid of Jubilee when her foster parents turn her in to the mutant registration she is attacked by Sentinels. The X-men save her and bring her to their facility. There, she learns a little about them. When she decides to go back and check on her parents, she is captured. The X-Men discover that the group running the Mutant Registration Program intends to track and eliminate mutants, so they decide to enter the building and destroy all the data.

02 "Night of the Sentinels (Part 2)" November 7, 1992

After destroying the files on mutants, the X-Men escape to the Blackbird, but are stopped by the Sentinels. During the fight with the Sentinels, Morph is killed and Beast is captured and imprisoned by the government. The X-men manage to track down the Sentinel's headquarters and free Jubilee. She decides to join Xavier's academy.

03 "Enter Magneto" November 27, 1992

Magneto attempts to break Beast out of prison, but Beast would rather stand trial. Sabretooth demands that Beast be set free and ends up going into a destructive rage, prompting the guards to shoot and injure him. Cyclops aids Sabretooth and brings him to the Mansions' infirmary, which does not sit well with Wolverine. Later, Magneto attacks a military missile facility.

04 "Deadly Reunions" January 23, 1993

Professor X tries to heal Sabertooth against Wolverine's warnings, while Magneto attacks a chemical plant in order to attract the attention of Professor X.

05 "Captive Hearts" January 30, 1993

Cyclops and Jean are captured by a group of human mutants called the Morlocks when they go out on a romantic date, much to Logan's hurt. Storm battles their leader Callisto for control of the underground mutant group.

06 "Cold Vengeance" February 6, 1993

Wolverine encounters Sabertooth in the Arctic, while Storm, Gambit, and Jubilee head to the "mutant loving" island paradise of Genosha.

07 "Slave Island" February 13, 1993

The X-Men discover the truth behind Genosha as Gambit, Storm, Jubilee and a host of other mutants are made to work as slaves in order to complete a dam which will power a Sentinel factory. Meanwhile Gambit meets the mysterious Cable.

08 "The Unstoppable Juggernaut" March 6, 1993

When the X-Mansion is trashed, the X-Men initially blame the Russian mutant Colossus, before discovering the real culprit is the Juggernaut.

09 "The Cure" February 20, 1993

Rogue goes to Muir Island for an experimental treatment to rid her mutant powers and narrowly escapes becoming the slave of Apocalypse.

10 "Come the Apocalypse" February 27, 1993

Apocalypse turns mutants who journeyed to Muir Island seeking the fictitious cure into the Horsemen. Apocalypse and his four Horsemen attack the World Peace conference in Paris. Rogue absorbs Archangel's dark side.

11 "Days of Future Past (Part 1)" March 13, 1993

In a future controlled by Sentinels, Bishop is sent back in time to stop a member of the X-Men from assassinating an important political figure.

12 "Days of Future Past (Part 2)" March 20, 1993

Bishop and the X-Men go to Washington and stop the assassination of Senator Kelly, but Bishop returns to find the future unchanged.

13 "The Final Decision" March 27, 1993

The X-Men and Magneto team up to stop Master Mold from replacing Senator Kelly's brain with a computer, and engage in an all-out battle against a score of Sentinels. Kelly calls off his anti-mutant campaign and Beast is freed from prison.

Blue Exorcist 青の祓魔師

The story revolves around Rin Okumura, a teenager possessing abnormal strength and endurance who, along with his twin brother Yukio, was raised by Father Shiro Fujimoto, an Exorcist. One day, Rin learns that he and Yukio are the sons of Satan, the strongest of all demons. Witnessing Shiro dying to protect him, Rin ends up doing what his guardian asked him never to do: draw the demon-slaying blade Kurikara, which restrains his demonic powers, from its scabbard. From that moment on, Rin not only gains permanent demonic features like fangs, pointed ears, and a tail, but also the power to ignite himself into blue flames that can destroy almost anything they touch.

At Fujimoto's funeral, Rin has an encounter with Fujimoto's friend Mephisto Pheles, who agrees with Rin's wish to become an Exorcist like his guardian to become stronger and to defeat Satan. Rin enrolls at the prestigious True Cross Academy, which is actually the Japanese branch of an international organization dedicated to protect the human realm, Assiah, from demons and other creatures from the demonic realm, Gehenna. Rin takes part in a special Exorcist course, the existence of which is known only by a few. Much to his surprise, he finds that his brother, Yukio, is already a veteran exorcist and becomes one of his teachers. Thus Rin's journey to become an Exorcist begins, accompanied by his brother and his fellow students who quickly become his friends and comrades-in-arms.
